Creating a Google Group to Wrap Your Adaptive Phish Reporting Email Alias

Set up a Google Group alias to simplify phishing reporting—forward emails internally to your Adaptive Security phishing report address.

Updated over 3 months ago

Why Set Up a Wrapped Alias?

Each company using Adaptive receives a single, fixed email alias for phishing reports (e.g., [email protected]). This alias cannot be customized, renamed, or replaced.

To make reporting easier and more intuitive for employees, we recommend setting up a Google Group alias (e.g., [email protected]) that auto-forwards reported emails to your Adaptive alias. This provides a more user-friendly experience while retaining full functionality in Adaptive's Phish Triage.

Before You Begin: Retrieve Your Adaptive Email Alias

You’ll need your company’s Adaptive-provided email alias to complete the steps below.

How to Find It:

  1. Log into the Adaptive platform.

  2. Go to the Workspace section in the sidebar.

  3. Click Settings.

  4. Navigate to the Phishing tab.

  5. Scroll to the Phish Reporting section.

  6. Under Manual reporting via email alias, copy your company’s unique alias by clicking the copy icon.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Go to Google Groups

Click on "Create Group" to begin setup.

Step 2: Name the Group and Set the Email Address

  • Group Name: Choose a clear name like “Phishing Reports”

  • Group Email: This is the alias employees will use (e.g., [email protected])

  • Description: Optionally add a short description like “Internal alias for reporting phishing emails.”

Step 3: Configure Group Access Settings

Set access permissions based on your organization’s preferences. Typical settings:

  • Who can post: Only users in your organization

  • Who can join: Anyone in the organization

  • Who can view conversations (Recommended): Group owners (to keep reports private)

Step 4: Add the Adaptive Email Alias as a Group Member

  • From the Group dashboard, navigate to "Members""Direct add members"

  • Paste the Adaptive-provided email alias (e.g., [email protected]) into the member field

  • Disable welcome messages if desired

Step 5: Save and Activate the Group

Once setup is complete:

  • Save your changes

  • Ensure the group is active and the alias is functioning

  • Test by sending a phishing test email to [email protected] and confirm it lands in your Adaptive Phish Triage dashboard

✅ You’re Done!

Once saved:

  • Employees can start forwarding suspicious emails to your new friendly alias (e.g., [email protected])

  • The underlying reports will still be tracked and triaged by Adaptive, just as if they were sent directly

This approach simplifies employee workflows while maintaining the full power of Adaptive's phishing detection and reporting infrastructure.
