Overview
For Microsoft 365 customers, we recommend setting up a wrapped email alias—an easy-to-remember internal address (e.g., [email protected]
) that automatically forwards phishing reports to your Adaptive-provided email alias.
This guide walks you through retrieving your Adaptive email alias and configuring the wrapped alias using Contacts and Distribution Lists in Microsoft 365.
Before You Start: Retrieve Your Adaptive Email Alias
Each company has a unique email alias for manual phishing reporting. You’ll need this before continuing setup.
How to Find It
Navigate to the Workspace section in the sidebar.
Click Settings.
Select the Phishing tab at the top of the page.
Scroll down to the Phish Reporting section.
Under Manual reporting via email alias, you’ll see your company's unique email alias.
Click the copy button next to the alias to copy it to your clipboard.
Step-by-Step Instructions to Set Up the Wrapped Alias in Microsoft
Step 1: Add Adaptive Alias as a Contact
Navigate to Microsoft 365 Admin Center → Settings → Users → Contacts
Click “Add a contact”
Step 2: Set the Contact Email
Name: Use something descriptive like “Adaptive Phishing Report Address”
Email: Enter your Adaptive-provided email alias (e.g.,
[email protected]
)(Optional) Hide from Global Address List if you don’t want it visible to all users.
Once completed you should see a new contact created with the email set to the Adaptive email alias:
Step 3: Create a Distribution List
Go to Teams & Groups → Active Teams and Groups → Distribution List
Click “Add a Distribution List”
Step 4: Configure the Distribution List
Name: Choose an employee-friendly name (e.g., “Phishing Reports”)
Alias: This is the new wrapped email address employees will use (e.g.,
[email protected]
)Owners: Assign admins who can manage the list
Step 5: Add Adaptive Contact to the Distribution List
Under Members, click “Add members”
Search for the contact you created in Step 2 and add it to the list
Step 6: Set the Group Email Alias
This is the address employees will forward phishing emails to (e.g., [email protected]
).
In the Settings step of the distribution list setup, enter your desired Group email address
Select your company’s domain
(Recommended) Deselect the option to allow external senders
Step 7: Complete Setup
Review and finalize your distribution list. Any emails sent to your internal alias (e.g., [email protected]
) will now be automatically forwarded to Adaptive’s Phish Triage platform.
✅ Result
Employees now have a simple, consistent email to report phishing, and your Adaptive Phish Triage will receive every report without manual forwarding or client-specific configurations.
