Training Campaigns: Test out

Test out lets employees skip a training module by passing a quiz first. Learn how to set it up for your modules and campaigns.

Overview

Test Out lets admins offer learners a short quiz at the start of a module. If a learner passes, they skip the module's content and move on. No need to sit through material if the learner can demonstrate their knowledge.

Test Out is configured in two places: the module itself, and the campaign. Both need to be set up for learners to see the option.

Setting Up Test Out on a Module

Test Out can be added to any custom module (one you've created or duplicated into your content library).

To add a Test Out assessment to a module:

  1. Go to TrainingContent Library → Our content.

  2. Open the module you want to edit.

  3. Click the ⛭ Advanced configurations button next to "Edit details."

  4. Enable Test Out.

Test Out section settings

Enabling Test Out will create a new section in your module called Test Out, and by default pre-create quiz questions based on the questions you already have in the module content.

  • Change the pass rate for test out by clicking Edit passing score in the 3 dot menu

  • Sync the test quiz frames to match the quiz questions from the module content by click on Sync quiz questions in the 3 dot menu

  • Reorder quiz questions by dragging/dropping the frames within the Test Out section.

  • Remove the Test Out section and delete all quiz questions

Editing Test Out quiz frames

Click on any quiz question frame to edit the quiz question. From here you will be able to:

  • Add, remove, or edit questions.

  • Adjust layouts and apply branding.

  • Configure standard frame-level settings.

Every frame in the Test Out section must include a quiz block.

Enabling Test Out in a Campaign

Once your module has a Test Out assessment, you need to enable it at the campaign level too.

When setting up a campaign:

  1. Add your module(s) to the campaign.

  2. In the campaign settings, turn on Test Out.

If Test Out is enabled on the campaign, modules with a Test Out assessment will show a badge in the module list. Hover over the badge to see details about the quiz. Modules without test out will show “Test Out: n/a”

Important: If Test Out isn't enabled at the campaign level, learners won't see the assessment, even if the module has one configured. Both need to be on.

The Learner Experience

When a learner opens a module with Test Out enabled, they'll see an option to take the assessment before starting the instructional content.

A few things to know about how the quiz works:

  • No retries on individual questions. Once a learner submits an answer, they can't go back and change it. They need to complete the full quiz to see their results.

  • No retries on the quiz itself. If a learner fails, they'll complete the full module content. They can't re-attempt the assessment.

  • If a learner opts out of Test Out. If a Learner decides to click Take the module anyways they will no longer be able to test out and must then complete the module.

If a Learner passes, they skip the module's instructional content and are marked as complete for the module in your reporting.

If a Learner does not meet the passing score, they are prompted to proceed through the module as normal.

Note: Test Out applies to individual modules only. If a campaign includes multiple modules, a learner who tests out of one will still need to complete the others.

Reporting

Test Out results are available in two places:

  • Details page for your campaign — shows campaign-level Test Out outcomes. Click on the Content tab to view module averages for Test Out.

  • Downloaded report — click Download report on the campaign details page to get a CSV that includes campaign-level and per-user/per-module details
